Care Instructions

This page will grow as specific information is added by our vendors, although not all products need special care!!

Alcohol Ink

On mugs: Generally left to cure for a day or two, then ‘fired’ in the oven. Where possible, they will be left to cure for a further 30 days. Because no sealer (eg acrylic spray-on top coat) is used these items are considered to be colour fast and food safe. They are also in theory dishwasher safe. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend anything other than hand washing with regular detergent and a soft sponge (no scourers!). I do put mine in the dishwasher from time to time, and find that it can dull the intensity of colour depending on the colours used. Do not soak for too long, or put in the microwave. Although cured and ‘cooked’ alcohol inks are not entirely colour fast and can fade if left in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

On tile coasters: As above, however coasters and other decorative items, ie items that will not be used to serve food, have been sprayed with a UV resistant acrylic sealer. Wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth.

Art Resin

Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do not put in dishwasher!

Items are sealed with a UV acrylic spray, however some colourants, primarily alcohol inks, despite the UV protection, can fade if left in direct sunlight for extended periods of time. They can also go tacky in extended periods of extreme heat but are generally rock hard in normal circumstances.

Art resin on chopping boards should not be used for direct food contact, and will mark if cut with a knife. This may seem counter intuitive, but the resin decoration on chopping boards is restricted to the handle and a small portion of the board so it is usable for serving.

Decoupage

Tile coasters are coated with several layers of sealer and have a cork backing so they won’t scratch the furniture! They are water resistant, but not 100% waterproof so if you leave them soaking wet for a period of time, it will make the papers become fragile. Wipe coasters with damp cloth, definitely not for the dishwasher.

Planters (terra cotta or ceramic) are sealed inside and out with a non-toxic sealer prior to decoupage. You can plant directly into the pot – it is water resistant but I can’t guarantee it’s 100% waterproof. Because not all pots have a drainage hole, I’d suggest planting into a plastic container and place it inside your planter which will keep the pot dry. They really aren’t designed to be exposed to all weather in the garden and would be best in a more protected spot, eg on the verandah or inside. Don’t immerse completely in water. Wipe clean with a damp cloth if necessary.
